I have discovered several photographs and postcards of Greenville, NH among the collection of the New Ipswich Historical Society including several of the Greenville trestle.
The head waters of the Souhegan River originate in New Ipswich and flow down through Greenville. The river powered mills in both towns.

Greenville’s Great Trestle was built of wood in 1851, and was rebuilt in 1907 after being destroyed by fire sparked by hot embers. It was the highest railroad bridge in the State of New Hampshire (105 feet) and was 626 feet long. The photos show both the wooden and steel structures.

Really cool. I so like seeing photos like these of little towns before ‘the progress of man’. You can actually see yourself on those streets… And of course the Greenville Trestle!! Do you happen to know the approximate years those town photos were taken? A friend is sending me pix like these of Fitchburg. What a difference between now and then!
You know my Dad did the same thing. Learned the history of where he lived and took pics of the present day. He was an excellent photographer in the darkroom days. I started with SLR’s and processing (you remember those days!!!) my own pix but that fell by the wayside. My bro is like my Dad without the pix; learning the history of where he lives.
